Abstract
|
| |
The effective crafting of multi-media for e-learning depends on understanding usage. Research
work in that regard is scarce. In this paper, we propose a theoretical model to understand usage in
that context. We construct a flow-usage model with three dimensions of usage: frequency of use,
time spent, and interruptions. A survey methodology approach was administered to capture relevant
constructs. A structural equation model approach was used for the assessment of the model's
results. Structural equation analysis provides evidence of significance for motivation on beliefs
and attitudes on usage. |

Abstract
|
| |
This paper critiques the explanatory and predictive architectures of six prominent innovation
adoption theories with a view to unraveling their individual capabilities in providing lenses to the
understanding of the social and idiosyncratic components of small and medium enterprise (SMEs)
in adopting Information Technology (IT). The analysis unravels that the existing theories, not
withstanding their strengths, have failed in one way or the other to provide an integrated framework
that is comprehensive in explaining and predicting IT adoption behavior by SMEs... |

Abstract
|
| |
The purpose of this study is to diagnose the state of the use of Information Communication Technology
(ICT), especially the Internet, in the Silesian region. The article presents the essence and
attributes of knowledge-based economy (KBE). The importance of ICT in its development is
stressed, especially for businesses, citizens, and administration, as the main beneficiaries of KBE.
Using cross-sectional studies as a research method, we analyzed the use of ICT in such relationships
as consumer-business, consumer-consumer, business-administration, and citizensadministration... |

Abstract
|

The term "information" pervades both the mundane and technical vocabularies to the extent that
it resembles an infomantra. It is argued in this article that despite the wide spread of this infomantra,
the term "information" does not communicate well to the client of informing since the informer
uses it arbitrarily and without regard for the effects of informing. Conceptual in character,
this argument is complemented by evidence from (1) evaluating user interface of Websites and
(2) analyzing academic articles... |

Abstract
|
| |
This paper addresses the impact of warranty of malfunctioning and warranty of misinforming on
making informed purchase decisions over the adoption period. We propose mathematical models
for quantification of the risk of misinforming by exploring customers' learning evolution. These
measures, dynamic in their nature, allow evaluation of customer's satisfaction or dissatisfaction
as a function of the misinforming warranty coverage over learning time. |

Abstract
|
| |
The main focus of this informative article is to bring attention to experimental research in the
field of information systems, especially for novice researchers such as doctoral students. In the
past three decades, information systems research has been heavily focused on theoretical model
development and testing using survey-based methodology. However, criticism on such an
approach has been prevalent. Experimental research has been used extensively in the 'hard'
sciences and has provided a solid foundation for advancement in those fields... |

Abstract
|
| |
Web usage log files generated on web servers contain huge amount of information that can be
used for discovering web usage association rules, which can potentially give useful knowledge to
the web usage data analysts. Association rule over-generation is a common problem in
association rule mining that is further aggravated in web usage log mining due to the
interconnectedness of web pages through the website link structure.
We implemented a system for the discovery of association rules in web log usage data as an object-
oriented application and used it to experiment on a real life web usage log data set... |

Abstract
|
| |
With DynaLearn learners can construct scientific knowledge by manipulating icons and their inter-
relationships, using a diagrammatic representation. The diagrams represent models that can be
simulated, confronting learners with the logical consequences of the knowledge they expressed.
Such modeling activities are highly advocated by science educators. Learning from the construction
and debugging processes of modeling can be enhanced by collaboration. The modeling elements
can serve as anchors for discussing, justifying, and explaining the model... |

Abstract

This paper reports on the continuation of a research that was started in 1994, when an attempt to
implement a global information system in a large multi-national firm was investigated over the
next 6 years. Already by 1999, however, it became clear that this, first, implementation was a resounding
failure - but as a longitudinal, large scale case study it contributed richly to a wider
study of the nature and specific character of such international information systems. In the last
months of 2003 the firm, in a new structure, under new management, re-started the quest for
global information systems support for its - now considerably more complex - international operations... |

This paper describes a study of educators at an Australian University who are using eTechnologies
in their teaching. The perceptions of the educators of the technologies are discussed as well
as how they believe these technologies help students to learn. Outcomes from the study offer
suggestions of how appropriate eTechnologies can be incorporated into online learning environments
for effective teaching. Particular emphasis is made of eTechnologies which support active
learning by students, one of the goals of the principles of good teaching practice in undergraduate
education. |

In order to examine the effectiveness of using PowerPoint slides as a teaching aid in the postsecondary
classroom, this exploratory study compared the impact on teaching effectiveness of the
number and density of slides, as well as the use of visuals and other non-textual elements within
slides. The number of slides used per session appeared not to affect effectiveness but lower den
sity (3 bullet points and 20 words or less per slide) was associated with effectiveness. Results for
the 10 instructors teaching 17 classes on information management from 2003 to 2009 were also
analyzed by teaching style... |

Abstract

In this paper, we describe a custom Relational Algebra Query software environment that enables
database instructors to teach relational algebra programming. Instead of defining query operations
using mathematical notation (the approach commonly taken in database textbooks), students write
query programs as sequences of relational algebra function calls. The data to be queried can be in
any Microsoft Access MDB file. The query processor software executes relational algebra instructions
interactively, allowing students to view intermediate result tables... |

The intricate crafting of online educational systems lie within three principal activities: Design of
the system, implementation, and proper post-implementation assessment. There is not enough
knowledge or experience in all regards. Efficient execution of these three major activities necessitates
the use of design and pedagogical models to achieve cost and time efficiency, as well as
high pedagogical quality. Models represent a structured approach to analysis and promote quantifiable

Abstract
|
| |
This paper provides an evaluation of the literature pertaining to the autopoietic, connectionist, and
cognitivist epistemological paradigms. These paradigms exist at the individual and organisational
level through diametrically opposed functionalist versus interpretive and integrative sociotechnical
knowledge management perspectives. The alignments of individual and organisational
epistemologies are essential to the effectiveness of a knowledge management system. Knowledge
management should consider the roots of knowledge theoretically in order to share or manage
knowledge dissemination successfully in organisations... |
